Witness the beauty of the Lanna Countryside
A Chiang Mai cycle tour is best taken with the most established cycle tour operator in Thailand – Spiceroads. Just a stone throw east of Chiang Mai, you will gradually move away from the typical tourist trail. Our guides will find you the fertile valleys that offer inspiring views and mountainous horizons that you would never get to see from the city. After a short ride out of Chiang Mai, you really get to stretch your legs and start your exploration of Sankampaeng and the beautiful Lanna countryside.
This one-day ride will take you out into the Northern Thai countryside and into places where the water buffalo and ox are the tools of choice. These gentle animals casually plow the fields and are put to work to transport the harvest. You will also visit the daily Sankampaeng markets where the fresh produce is sold. Your guides will also make sure to pass by some temples that often represent the centre of these communities and the soul of the people.
Highlights of the trip
- Sankampaeng Market
- Paddy fields
- Local temples
- Sankampaeng Hot Springs
What is the riding like?
The ride is a gentle 30kms with a few small ups and down towards the end. Expect to ride on quiet sealed country roads, plus some smooth dirt lanes through the rice paddies, right at the base of the mountains. In this area, there is often a gentle breeze and together with lots of shady spots it makes for a perfect touring environment to keep you cool and energized.
During your Chiang Mai cycle tour, lunch will be served in a small local restaurant. They offer a nice variety of tasty noodle soups and some lively curries, if you like to spice things up. There will also be opportunities to sample fruit, depending on what season we are in.
